Portrait of Abdurrahman Aliyu Gambo

About

To ponder is to seek, yet to know is to truly see

I am a computer engineer, founder, and lifelong learner based in Abuja, Nigeria.

Background

My name is Abdurrahman Aliyu Gambo, I'm Nigerian-Canadian, I was raised in Baltimore County Maryland, USA, and Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada but currently reside in Abuja, Nigeria.

Early on my eyes were set on innovation and science and while I always expected to study physics, I ended up majoring in Computer Engineering, with a particular interest in Electronics, Embedded systems, and Artificial Intelligence. My interests weren't limited to STEM, I was particularly passionate about reading, and debate from elementary to junior high school, and they still show themselves today in my passion for public speaking, history and science fiction.

In 2018, my family and I moved to Nigeria, the land where my parents grew up, and through this I reconnected with my culture and certainly improved my Hausa. I attended Nile University from 2019 and graduated with a First-Class Degree in 2024. That same year, I and a couple of close friends founded Gyronics Technologies. We wanted to change how people interact with their devices, envisoning a more intuitive way to connect with all the digital technology around us.

Today I move between systems work, electronics, research, and the ongoing work of building a company.

Software & systems

C/C++, Python, JavaScript, embedded firmware, Linux/Ubuntu, protobufs, concurrent systems, and API/SDK development.

Hardware & electronics

PCB design, IMU and sensor systems, signal processing, SPICE/Ngspice, Xschem, Magic, Verilog, and analog/mixed-signal circuit design.

Machine learning & interaction

Gesture recognition, dataset collection, PyTorch, Neural Networks, Edge ML, real-time inference, and human-centred interaction systems.

Visual & creative work

Video editing, photography, raster and vector graphics with DaVinci Resolve, Inkscape, GIMP, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Krita.

Communication & leadership

Technical leadership, research writing, product direction, debate, and building teams around difficult engineering problems.

Languages & continuing study

Arabic and Japanese study, alongside continuing work in analog and mixed-signal IC design.

Outside engineering, I study Arabic and Japanese, play chess (I always welcome a challenge), I do graphic design and video editing, and I love paleontology and history. I use Ubuntu as my daily driver, and I am often known online as The39thBit.
